The Monastery has always been significantly involved in the historical development of the territory. A work of art that in addition to its own architecture, serves to showcase art, history and other treasures from across the national and international geography in order to offer the public the rich cultural heritage of humanity.
The monastery's exhibition hall offers an extensive program of temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
Teacher by profession, sculptor by trade, both by vocation. "Naturomaniac" by conviction and arboreal to contemplate the sky more closely.
Born in Madrid, where eight large black poplars were witnesses and protagonists of his neighborhood games. After a seven-year tour of boarding schools (Coruña, Córdoba, Alcalá de Henares) where he always found the company of some singular tree and after finishing his teaching studies, he settled in Bustarviejo, looking for a space in nature. It is in this town where he begins his teaching and creative work. Discover the characteristics of the interior of the trees, color, smell, textures ... (the exterior was already very internalized) using wood to create educational toys with a fellow student, with whom he shares work, hobbies and life, to focus later in his sculptural work. It is also in Bustarviejo where he meets a group of artists - Mitsuo Miura, Carlos Urbina, Gerardo Aparicio and Adolfo Schlosser - With the latter he establishes a close relationship, which leads him to reaffirm his own work with nature and more especially with the trees.
He has participated in thirty group exhibitions and around twenty individual exhibitions. The present Trees exhibition, from the beginning to the end, gathers a wide sample of his works, from birth, with pieces made with tree seeds, to the claim of them with works made with remains of trees collected on the beaches, belonging to the Traveling Trees series. All the works have been carried out with trees and organic materials already dead, cut down (with or without reason) or collected in landfills, trying at all times to offer them a second life.
